Mechanical Designer
Experience Requirements
Previous CAD drafting, mechanical design, or tooling-design experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Hands-on experience with CNC machining, CAM programming, welding, fixture development, or tool-and-die work is highly desirable.
Education Requirements
Associate degree in mechanical design, drafting, manufacturing engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent relevant education, training, and manufacturing experience will be considered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Create accurate 3D CAD models and production drawings using Autodesk Inventor
• Develop drawings from customer prints, samples, hand sketches, and other available information
• Design welding jigs, forming dies, checking fixtures, specialized tools, and in-process checking aids
• Assist with the design and manufacture of specialized in-house tools and equipment
• Use Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM software to develop CNC programs for tooling and fixtures
• Assist with operating CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture welding jigs, dies, and other tooling
• Support prototype and tooling production from initial design through final implementation
• Troubleshoot design, tooling, and production-process issues
• Recommend changes to manufacturing methods, material handling, equipment layouts, and other processes to improve quality or efficiency
• Work with management, production employees, customers, and the engineering team to determine part specifications and manufacturing capabilities
• Prepare new-part documentation, including material requirements and labor-routing operations
• Train production employees on the proper use of checking aids and fixtures
• Monitor new products and tooling during production and correct problem areas before full implementation
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering and Technology
Qualifications
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor is required
• Previous CAD drafting or mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, dimensions, and manufacturing specifications
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and measurement techniques
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Ability to use calipers, micrometers, measuring tapes, and other measuring devices
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
• Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, management, customers, and other members of the engineering team
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects
Experience with Autodesk Fusion 360, CNC programming, machining, welding, manual mills, or manual lathes is strongly preferred.
